Abstract

Purpose of this study was to assess at middle school students¢¥ emotional/behavioral problem by the level of Parents¢¥ drinking problem.
Research method used in this study was descriptive survey research. The total subjects of this study were 984 Middle School Students in H middle school, Gwangju.
The data were collected from September 1, 2002 to 18 and analysed by Frequency test, x2-test, ANOVA Using the SPSS/WIN 10.0 Program.

The results were as follows.
1. There was a significant difference in level of satisfactory for school-living(x2=35.503, p=0.000) by the level of Parents¢¥ drinking problem.
2. There was a significant difference in fathers¢¥ school level(x2=16.497, p=0.002), mothers¢¥ school(x2=19.524,
p=0.001) and fathers¢¥ occupation(x2=26.013, p=0.000) by the level of Parents¢¥ drinking problem.
3. There was a significant difference in state of conversation with father(x2=66.569, p=0.000) and mother
(X2 =31.781, p--0.000) by the level of Parents¢¥ drinking problem.
4. In the distribution of normal/ clinical group by total problem score of middle school students, normal group was 864(87.8%) and clinical group was 120(12.2%) among 984 students. Among 864 students of normal group, students with fathers¢¥ drinking problem were 117(13.6%), and among 120 students of clinical group, students with fathers¢¥ drinking problem were 35(29.2%). This shows that fathers¢¥ drinking problem rate of clinical group of middle-school students was higher than of normal group.
5. In K-YSR(Korea-Youth Self-Report) normal group, there was significant difference in depression/anxiety
(F=3.15, p=0.009), aggressive bebavior(F=2.69, p=-0.043)- by the level of Parents¢¥ drinking problem.
6. In K-YSR(Korea-Youth Self-Report) clinical group, there was significant difference in withdrawal(F=3.13,
p=0.042), depression/anxiety(F=3.14, p=0.041) by the level of Parents¢¥ drinking problem.

Thus this study concluded that parent¢¥ drinking problem had an effect on middle school students¢¥ emotional/ behavior problem and state of conversation with parent.
